Sally L. Rathert passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 5th, 2016. She was born in Louisville, KY on May 14, 1943, the second daughter of Elmer and Kathryn Harvey. The family moved to Green Bay, WI in 1962. Sally graduated with honors from Bellin College School of Nursing and received her RN degree. Sally was a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton for almost 30 years, working the majority of her time as a psychiatric nurse. She loved her patients and co-workers and was completely happy with her chosen field of work. Sally was twice nominated for the Nightingale Award for excellence in nursing, and was named outstanding RN at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1996. She retired in 2008, and moved to New London, WI. Sally was very active with the First United Methodist Church, was a volunteer at the Fox Valley Aids Clinic, and had several of her written stories published in the Post- Crescent. Sally always loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She owned three hunter/jumpers and competed in many local horse shows. Sally was an active member in the Oshkosh Kennel Club, the Winnegamie Dog Club, and the Papillon Club of America. Because of her passion for animals as well as people, Sally and her dog, Oliver, earned a therapy dog certification and together they would visit countless hospitals and nursing homes. Sally owned many different dogs through her life, but she found a love with the Papillon breed. She trained and showed her Papillons and earned championships and obedience titles with her dogs. She is survived by her children, Heidi (Tom) Martin and John (Turi) Rathert. Grandchildren Emma and Thomas Martin, and Owen and Parker Rathert. Her sister Susan (Lloyd) Flanders and their children Scott and Stacy. She is further survived by her dear friend Jim Adams. Sally was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Kathryn Harvey. Sally loved God, life, her wonderful family, her many friends, and most everyone she met. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 25 2016 at 11AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9077 North Rd., Fremont. Rev. Mark Kinney will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, at the church, from 10AM until the time of service
